The Laodecian Church Age

We have slowly spiralled into the Laodecian church age blindly focusing on wealth, health, possession and status. It is interesting (while disturbing) that we have not taken serious what John wrote in Revelation 3. In a crave for gold and glamour the church has lost it's sense of purpose and need for intimacy with Christ.

We have often referred to Revelation 3:20 as a call to sinners/unsaved/none-believers to open their hearts and respond to Christ's call. The truth is, this is the church of our age, and it confirms the prophetic declaration Christ made.

This speaks of the church that has lost it's purpose, basking in the glory of earthly wealth and treasure, rich, but poor; fully clothed, but naked; appear to know clearly where it is going, but blind. The point is, Jesus says he is standing at the door and knocking...hoping someone will open the door and let him in. Imagine for a moment: in the middle of a (so called) worship service, Jesus is saying, "If any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and him with me" (Rev. 3:20).

I am sure if you look in most of our churches today you will clearly see the reflection of the Laodecian church in its most clear form. Take a good look and let's have a conversation.

I agree with you. The church in America fits the description perfectly. The Laodicean church was truthful in her doctrine but was a middle-of-the-road church. She had amassed so much wealth that she had failed to be a true witness to the world.

This was a real church during the time of John the Revelator. This particular church specialized in fundraising; and everything seemed to be centered around wealth. Christ told that church to “buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich....” (Rev.3:18). With this church boasting in her own strength, it would be clear that she would fall away if her riches were taken away.

Usually, when one amasses great wealth they will desire to live longer and scorn the return of Christ. They want to enjoy economic success which leads to compromising God’s Word. We have to either be on fire for the Lord or not.

I do agree with you. When I looked at our churches here in Jamaica, I have seen where we have lost our first love, the zeal to witness, giving our Sovereign Lord true worship and portraying true Christlike character. We are more satisfying the lust of the flesh and giving into temptations. If only we could learn to trust the Lord to be our Shepherd, then we would have being a disciplined and better church.
